Choruses Lead the Way!

This is a fabulous clip from CBS Sunday Morning about the impact that singing in a chorus has on not just singers, but everyone in their community. As an alto myself, I know choirs are just way too...

As a choir and orchestra conductor, I am glad to see that CBS has decided to create such a nice documentary. Change - yes, we can!

Loved this! I have been a member of different choruses continually since I was 8 yrs old. I cannot imagine my life without music - and the special friendships I have made along the way. It's a fact, people who join together and sing are just plain happier! I hope school boards will see this video, and make their music programs a priority.

My mom was a church chorister all her life and got me started singing Alto at age 9. I now sing Tenor, although I'm really a Baritone. My mom passed away in April at age 74. She asked me years ago when I was a teenager to always support the church choir. Now almost 40 years later I feel both blessed and proud that I have faithly kept that promise I made to her. Before her passing, my children as a gift of love to Mom made the same life commitment to her, one I hope they will keep...

i started singing in kindergarten in my church's choir and continued for 9 years. i did chorus in elementary school, as well as extracurricular groups in middle school and (currently) high school. i also audition/join honors choirs outside of school and regret nothing. music is not just a beat, rhythm, or tune. it is a feeling, a thought, a dream becoming reality. there are so many things we can accomplish and it's our responsibility to make sure they go unnoticed.

I grew up in school choirs in the late 50's & 60's. It was a big part of my life that I'll never forget. I attend Grsce Community Church in Ca. and we have a wonderful full choir that leads us to prepare our hearts for worship and also the message from the pulpit. "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, sing praises to His name". What a blessing choirs and coral groups are. Singing makes for a merry heart!!! Thanks for the great video.

After participating in an Iowa City community sing at Old Brick led by the Urban Bush Women, I told one of them, "A community that does not sing is not a community."

I've been in choruses and choirs since the second grade. The one year my school budget was cut and we lost music was HORRIBLE for me! I love the variety of choruses out there and encourage everyone to join if you love singing. I hope they NEVER cut these programs from schools again.

My son is currently on tour with a well-regarded boys' choir. He's been involved for a 1 1/2 years. It is his social life. I've seen him develop maturity and responsibility since joining. My young daughter has already declared she wants to sing when she gets old enough. Keep singing, America!
