Wei Yan Ran (Brigitte Lin) has intense guilt over having forced her younger sister, Wei Qiao Mei (Liu Sau Ling) onto the swings when they were little. As a result of that, an accident happens and Qiao Mei becomes blind. Thus Yan Ran always treats Qiao Mei with the best of intentions, spoiling her sometimes and always giving up everything for her.

Both grow up and Yan Ran develops a longtime crush on fellow classmate, Ling Kang (Liu Wen Zhen). Qiao Mei grows up innocent, having her sister and parents do everything for her. She loves to play the piano but when Ling Kang sees Qiao Mei for the first time, he falls in love with her. Yan Ran knows this and although she loves Ling Kang, she gives him up to Qiao Mei. She meets An Gong Zi and they fall in love.

When Qiao Mei realizes that she has inadvertently stolen her sisters love, she rejects Ling Kangs and his offer of marriage. But Yan Ran convinces her that she loves An Gong Zi now.

However, on a dark and lonely night, An Gong Zi sees Qiao Mei really depressed and embraces her. Yan Ran sees them and is distraught that she has to give up yet another person she loves to Qiao Mei but the sisters make up when Qiao Mei announces she is going to marry Ling Kang.

The second half of the movie focuses on Qiao Meis adjustment to married life, her fall into depression. And with her sister, An Gong Zi & Ling Kangs help, shes finally able to leave her problems behind and rise from the ashes (like a phoenix).
