@Cashmachinez Being an ex soldier here's my advice about joining the ARMY. Don't do it. First off the war is B.S. "Operation Iraqi Freedom" is really Operation Make Millionaire CEO's richer than they already are. Only people benefiting from this war is the big corporate CEO's and the brass in the pentagon. If you feel some great calling or other weird inspiration to join the military join the Airforce, you get better barracks, better jobs and after your time you get better civilian jobs.

I served 10 years after being given and Other Than Honorable. After years of harrasment due to my division officer attempting to make me divorce my wife, also military, so that I could return to sea duty I became "blackballed" by him as they say which led to a downward spiral in my career. My military attorney had half of my chain of command about to go to court martial when i was dischaged for minor drug use related to me being constantly harrased. I LOVE THE NAVY,but wish I would have retired.

I went awol fore 2 years and that was the best thing I did, because wen I turn my self in all they did, aricle 15 y was slepping in the cq with escort every where i go, then they tried to scare me of giving court martial, but I went to Jag and he prosses me out of the military, paper work took like 2 month, after that I got a ch10,and Im doing good and have a good job been a supervisor...the trick is never say u where in the mili that doesent show in ur job history, all they say is bullshit lies.

@KentuckyCalifornia It will stay on your record if you get a dishonorable discharge, and if you do indeed get a dishonorable then yes you are right, you cant vote or bear arms. If you get an admin seperation (which is the main thing they are giving right now for awol people in the navy, can't speak for the other branches) it will not be on your record. I think the punishment for going awol/desertion is much harsher in the army and marines.

@VredesStal i agree with you though, i think anyone who is able bodied should have to go into the service, i'm glad i did my time it really helped me.
RepublicanNatio 1 year ago
@VredesStal Well you can serve for 2 year enlistments. But the catch with that is you would have to join the active reserves for 6 years (unlike the regular 4 year enlistees having to be on the Inactive reserves) The difference is the active reservee's have to show up to their nearby base twice a month for training and what not, inactive reservee's (like myself served 4 years in the navy) don't have to show up unless they are called to go to war or something.

9 Months to 2 years? Seriously? There is a reason we have the most well trained military in the world. Most of our people have between 9 months to 2 years training before they show up at the first operational unit. To have people serve for 9 months to 2 years they would either be untrained or we would have no operational forces.

dont go awol, youll be treated like a felon in thr civilian world.
1. no right to vote
2. no right to bear arms
3. it stays on your record like a conviction.
officers and enlisted troops are not the same in any branch. officers are like thr white house staff, enlisted are like general motors workers. two different worlds.
officers have no right to judge enlisted troops.
