In a very real way, Christ brought a sword to this world. But that sword fell hardest on His followers. There were martyrs before Christ--I highly recommend reading the Book of Maccabees in the Old Testament. But there have been thousands more martyrs since He came, and the most have happened in the past century, under the Nazis, under Communism, and under militant Islam. Those who will not accept his truth cannot just ignore it. They can only hate it.

What is important is that we have peace with God because of what Christ did for us at the Cross. That is what's important. Jesus is the Word of God. The Word is the Sword of the Spirit. (Eph 6 & Heb 4). It is sharper than the sharpest knife, cutting deep into our innermost thoughts and desires. It exposes us for what we really are.

My favorite Michael Card song....

He did not bring peace, but a sword.

Yes, that is true in one sense. Jesus did not come to bring 'world peace.'
But, he did come as the prince of peace. "Peace on earth good will towards men."
Jesus brought true peace to the hearts of men. Those that choose to follow him will have perfect peace, but, the choice to follow him may bring a sword between those whom you love...... A follower of Christ may be rejected by his family, thus, a sword is put between them.

They were looking for a king to conquer and kill...
Who'd have thoguth he'd be so meek and humble?
I don't think Jesus cares as much about some things (poltics, etc) that we think he cares about.

The Jews were expecting a mighty messiah in the image of David.
When Jesus came, he became the King of the Jews. But, instead of being a warrior, Jesus was the ultimate example of meekness and humility.
