Purchased the contract of RHP Hideo Nomo from Rookie Idaho Falls

2008-04-10

Nomo made his first major league appearance since 2005. He faced the New York Yankees in relief. He was brought in to start the seventh inning of a game while the Yankees were leading 4-1. Nomo loaded the bases, but was able to retire his native countryman, Hideki Matsui to strand all three runners. However, he later surrendered back-to-back homers to Alex Rodriguez and Jorge Posada in the ninth inning.

Everything disintegrated for the Royals when the A's scored eight in the eighth. Oh, it was ugly.

KC reliever Yasuhiko Yabuta walked four batters and gave up an infield single for two runs while getting two outs. His Japanese countryman Hideo Nomo came in and got Brown to hit a high pop that looked like the third out.

Shortstop Tony Pena Jr. camped under the ball and waved his arms. With Teahen coming up behind him, Pena suddenly spun off. The ball dropped onto the grass for a two-run double.

Pena thought Teahen had called for the ball.

"I heard something. I guess it was something from the stands or something," Pena said. "When you hear something called, you've got to get out of the way. I heard something and got out of the way."

He didn't hear Teahen.

"No, I really didn't get in there to get under it. I was shifted away. I didn't say anything; it must have been the crowd or something," Teahen said.

Sweeney smacked an infield single off Nomo's body. Then Crosby stepped into a 1-0 Nomo pitch and drove it high over the center-field wall for a three-run homer. It gave Crosby a career-high five RBIs.

  • ill never forget his no-hitter is boston.

  • For having the career he had and being the pioneer for japanese in mlb the hard way, and being so successful anyways, even through injuries and the fact that asshole american media doesn't give him any of the credit he deserves in america, he is easily a Hall of Famer in my opinion. Forget his statistically awful seasons. By that time his fastball wasn't as strong. Legend.

  • He managed to win his 200th game combined Japan-MLB in 2005 with Tampa Bay. That statistic put him into the meikyukai, 1 of 2 Japanese hall of fames, though a don't know if he has accepted membership at this point. Nomo is regarded as a pioneer that led other Japanese who wanted to go play overseas to do so. In case people want some proof that Nomo was really great there is a video on youtube with Nomo and Michael Jordan in 1995 or 1996 and Jordan is very happy to meet him.

  • people talking bad about him are idiots who don't know baseball. injuries hurt him during his career but he still managed to pitch effectively after leaving japan to pitch in mlb, and then after leaving the dodgers in 1997. all MLB players during his time have nothing but great things to say about him. he was getting the greatest MLB hitters out for 5 years in Japan before dominating in america. he sacrificed his career and fame in japan to come here because his new manager was ruining his arm.

  • he had an ERA of 0 in spring training with the royals and he led them in strikeouts i would think they would have given this great competitor a bit more time. yeah he was out of shape but he could still pitch. and it wasn't like the royals were going anywhere anyways.

  • man i wish he was still pitching he is my favorite pitcher in little league i try to use his delivery

  • ok im done arguing with you...u are a know nothing piece of shit...and great he threw 2 no hitters..he still will not be in hof and i can still think of a million other pitchers that havnt even thrown no hitters that are better then him...so just shut the fuck up.

  • haha i just knew you would turn this into a race issue. Keep in mind you just named two people that threw ONE no hitter, not two. To tell the truth, one no hitter could be a fluke, which is why people like wells and cone did throw one, and people like bucholz and lester did too, even though they arent/will not be great. Nomo did and still is revolutionizing the way japanese pitchers and players are portrayed in the mlb.

  • you're one to talk about stupid remarks. Throwing one no hitter is an awesome feat, but to throw two is pretty much unheard of. Think of who else has thrown multiple no hitters. Some huge names come to mind...ever heard of NOLAN RYAN, CY YOUNG, ADDIE JOSS, JOHNNY VANDER MEER, BOB FELLER, ALLIE REYNOLDS, VIRGIL TRUCKS, WARREN SPAHN, SANDY KOUFAX, BOB FORSCH, RANDY JOHNSON?? Those sound like pretty big names to me, buddy.

  • dude ur a fucking tard....a lot of pitchers have thrown no hitters and havent been considered great...so think it over next time before u make another idiot fucking remark
