http://www.kino.com/video/item.php?film_id=897 THE HANDS OF ORLAC is a deliciously twisted thriller that blends grand guignol thrills with the visual and performance styles of German Expressionism. This Kino edition was mastered in HD from a 35mm print restored by the F.W. Murnau Foundation, supplemented with additional footage from the Raymond Rohauer Collection. Available on DVD individually or as part of THE GERMAN EXPRESSIONISM 4-DVD Box Set.

  • Kino and the Murnau Stiftung have been a godsend to the aficionados of the German silent film!

  • Both Conrad Veigh (pronounced "fight") and my grandmother were good friends both on and off stage. Even though my grandmother never had an opportunity to flee Nazi Germany, they were able to correspond with each other when she did arrive with my mother in America in 1949. Sometimes, I have a vain wish that she would have resumed her acting career when she did arrive.

There were two versions of this movie made. One is in German and the other in Russian. Thank you again for posting this video.

  • his hands are innocent !!! lol

  • @lapislazuli7 Not all Germans may look like him, but they certainly are very handsome people! ;D

  • @mills211 I cannot really say that I meet a lot of people in Germany with the looks of Conrad Veidt!! ;-)

  • The plot of this movie reminds me of that episode of the simpsons Treehouse of Horror where Snake's hair gets transplanted onto Homer's scalp, and the Snake version of Homer kills everyone who helped get him sent to prison, eventually leading to Bart.

  • Those hands are wily. I wouldn't say they're beautiful, though..

  • Ohhh Connie!!!!!!

  • I am glad I am in the Uk - boxed set of L&H for Christmas!! Bliss!

  • Veidt has amazing hands. Why are Germans blessed with such beautiful hands? lol

And thanks for posting this! I think I'm convinced to see the movie now. :)

  • That's also weird! Laurel and Hardy are very popular here in Germany, and most of their movies are available on DVD! God alone knows what goes on inside the heads of the studio bosses, some true gems are kept from us while so much trash is released.
