This is a program that retrieves images from a live video feed or from a video file stored in a drive and performs in real-time a color transformation to show how the video would be seen by one of the three kinds of dichromat color blind people. In this video, it's shown the transformation for people with deuteranopia.

The color transformation is based on the following paper: F. Viénot, H. Brettel, and J. Mollon. Digital video colourmaps for checking the legibility of displays by dichromats. Color Research and Application, 24:243-- 252, 1999.

  • How did you do this? Is there a free program, or a way that it can be done using colour correcting/balance tools?

    I wrote a program myself to perform this task.

    The process transforms the colors to the LMS color space, perform changes in the values of the colors and then goes back to the RGB color space. In the description you will find the paper in which my program is based and that explains the method I followed.

    I don't know if it can be done directly with color correcting and/or balance tools, sorry.

  • I dont get it, You took a big picture and made a picture in picture of the same picture.... Where are the differences...

  • only the first picture had noticeable differences for me, all the rest looked indistinguishable

  • Some of them I could differ, some not. I saw a picture with a deuteranopic pair (had a lizard and a yellow sheet), they both looked exactly the same to me, but two of my sisters said that one was more colorful. Some of the protanopic pictures in the other video looked the same as well, is there something I could have that's in-between?

    I could tell the difference between the wine and the red football shirts in both videos, but not the rest (except perhaps a tiny difference vividness.)

  • @mrithail Not really, just haven't seen much software that can do dichromacy simulation for more than just pictures.

  • @diyadokeon Actually, none, they were just a mockup. Why, do you have any ideas? :D
