貴州雷山縣苗年暨西江鼓藏節開幕式

苗年是最集中地展示苗族服飾、銀飾、工藝美術等有形文
化的節日，時間大都在農曆十月。苗族認爲，一年只有熱、冷兩個季節，
熱季和冷季交替的農曆十月，既是熱季的結束，又是冷季的開始，同時也
是舊年的結束，新年的開始。苗年有大年、小年和尾年之分，小年僅打點糯米粑祭祖，尾巴年也僅象征性地過，唯大年最爲熱鬧，所有的傳統活動亦在"大年"期間舉行。過年之前，­已出嫁的姑娘要接回家共度佳節，家家戶戶要釀制米酒、打年粑、磨豆腐、殺年豬、備新衣過年；大年當天(如漢族除夕)，家家都要以豬頭、豬心、腰子、雞、魚、酒和糯米粑祀祖­先神靈，祭品中，其他可以缺，唯有魚不能缺，必須用魚祭祖，表示不忘祖先東方海邊故土。因爲苗年是苗族一年中最重要的節日，集會的時間長，也最爲熱鬧。

Nice video of the actual festival! That drum in the middle looks a lot bigger than the one in Miao King's home, maybe they made a new one? Love the miao costumes.
