Human kindness has never weakened the stamina or softened the fiber of a free people. A nation does not have to be cruel to be tough. -FDR

Great, great cover. To give the original song writer his due, Phil Ochs wrote both "To the State of Mississippi" & "To the State of Richard Nixon". Ochs is possibly the most underrated/unknown song writers of his time. His words are timeless. Eddie Vedder has consistently used his career to speak the truth, question authority and to give us all something to think and talk about. What we do with the truth is up to us. Sadly, not much has changed from one admin to the next.

pearl jam is american
eddie vedder didnt rite that song, he just was one of the people who revised it and sang it well
these lyrics are meaningful
critical acclaim is meaningful to,
people are against bush, and thats not who they should have been against, cause he was kind of a puppet. he messed up, as will obama will, cause he is human just like w bush, all we can do is hope for a better tomorrow, given to us by whoever can give it and hope that that person thinks of all involved

eddie vedders like the biggest patriot ever he fuckin loves america

Wow...someone who's against Bush. How original. Everyone who actually thinks these lyrics are meaningful should take a listen to Avenged Sevenfold's "Critical Acclaim." At least they like America!

Indeed it was =)

The origionla song "To the State of Mississippi" was about slavery and lack of civil rights in the South. Then Ochs redid his own song, entitling it "To the State of Richard Nixon." That song was about the Vietnam War.
Yeah, To the State of Mississippi
