Dream Theater Tribute
Split Screen Covers

Lifting Shadows Off a Dream
Album: Awake

The first of a series of covers of a project called 'Split Screen Covers' my friends and I are putting together. An online tribute to Dream Theater.

╟►SPLIT SCREEN COVERS

Song #1 - "Lifting Shadows Off a Dream"

Song #2 - "Metropolis - Part 1"

Song #3 - "Constant Motion"

The idea behind the project is to collaborate online to record these covers.

Although some good friends of mine form the core of the project, the band won't necessarily be the same for every song. We will probably have guests from around the world participating, mostly on vocals though, at our discretion.

How does it work?

Each guy in the band records their parts (audio tracks and video) at home or at a local studio and sends them to me.

I then put the audio together and mix it. This has been a great exercise for me (mixing). I learn the concept behind the sound of my favorite albums and try a whole bunch of cool techniques attempting to replicate it closely.

I AB my mix with the original song but don't get too crazy about it. It's difficult to get the sound exactly right due to a number of variables. When I get it close enough I stop comparing the two and just get it to sound good (hopefully) from there.

When the final stereo audio track is done I take it to a video editing software and sync everyone's videos to it. After a bit of editing and level/color correction it's ready for YouTube. :)

For the instrumental part of the lineup you'll notice some good friends of mine from other videos. My brother Felipe on bass, and Paulinho and César Zolhof on drums and keys respectively.

On this first project we have a very special guest from Venezuela on vocals. José 'Chego' Cabrices is a stand-up guy. After contact through youtube he had his tracks sent in in no time. I think he has an awesome voice and great feel for the song! Looking forward to doing more songs with Chego. Thanks man!!

  • it can ruin your voice to

  • it's fine if u want a smoke, but that smoke can ruin the mic, the screen and all the equipment

  • I like the drummer dude! He plays with such ease yet his fills are all there!

  • moved by desire and fear.... breaking delicate wings..... lifting shadows off a dream once broken, wow man wow..

  • @MrElvith Theres no need for them to do split screen covers anymore, Although they should carry it on, they have their own band; BAD SALAD!

  • @virtualmetal You think smokers don't know that?

  • larga vida a los instrumentistas, lastima que se van a quedar sin vocalista porque seguro seguro con el cigarro, aparte de verse ridiculo, sus pulmones deben estar vueltos mierda; igual es un gran vocalista. sorry.

  • @Toxic78 You just admitted that you've never watched videos of pros recording song. Almost every pro vocalist I can think of lights up while they are recording.

  • @Toxic78 It's a little bit of rock attitude

  • Seriously? You couldn't have waited with the smoking until AFTER the recording? The song and your voice is greate and all, but this looks really unprofessional imo.
