Michael Byers is an international law professor and expert on Arctic geo-politics. His new book is called "Who Owns The Arctic"

  • @krayzai if its true does it matter

  • Bout time someone ruined our parade fuck this country we call canada..REVOLUTION!

  • This entire interview was pre-planned, the questions and answers were set. Throw a little self-absorption in there too perhaps.

  • I'm gonna tounge punch your moms fart box and read a book.

  • thanks for the upload-this had a lot of important information which i believe needs to be shared around so people know what's happening

  • Canada needs to take control of the Northwest passage and turn it into a northern version of the "Panama Canal".

It would provide a stable economic boost for the north and our country. Plus well paying jobs for the Inuit living up there.

Why hasn't the government seized upon this yet?

  • Hopefully the world agrees that it is Canada's, if not, I guess we'll have to sink foreign vessels invading our waters.

  • Wilbert 1755... Are you fucking stupid! Look at a goddamn map!

Russia is at least 1000 miles off the shores of Canada, Their submarines wouldnt even have been able to sail through Canadas north. The Russians positioned their Navel superiority and attentions purely on the North Atlantic and the Americans, They had no interests in enforcing Canadas north. Let along were able to navigate the Northwest Passage without surfacing.

  • "The Arctic is opening up" .. Wrong! it has been open since 1956. The Only reason why we can now cross the NWP it is because after the end of the USRR the Russians, who did not allowed any ship to travel in the area, 10 years ago they have lifted the ban.Ships can now travel through their ports. The April 1st National Snow and Ice Data Center " this growth of Arctic Sea ice well past the normal start. 500,000 sq/km more ice in 2008 then 2007 and 500,000sq/km more ice in 2009 then 2008.

  • the problem is that those countries aren't recognizing Canada's right to the North and the North West Passage which is Canada's alone.
