Liz and Dave came to visit us in Japan and I decided the best way to record our vacation would be to tape everything we did for no more than two seconds. I wasn't very sure how it would come out and some takes had to be longer than two seconds, but I think the end result is effective.

Cindy and I traveled from our home towns in Fukushima prefecture on Tuesday, March 20th to Tokyo, where we met Liz and Dave at the hostel. The next day we went to Kyoto to do some sightseeing for a few days. Then we went to Himeji Castle in Hyogo prefecture. We followed that up with a trip to Koyasan - a Buddhist retreat - for one night. Our last full day together we spent traveling by train back to Tokyo. Liz and Dave left Japan on March 26th.

Highlights of our trip : We visited Kyoto Tower, Sanjusangen-do temple, Kiyomizu temple, Rokuon-ji temple (more commonly known as "Kinkaku" - the Golden Pavilion) in Kyoto. We visited Himeji Castle in Hyogo prefecture and Mount Koya (Koyasan) in Wakayama prefecture. In between we ate Japanese food, sang karaoke and rode a lot of trains. Enjoy!

  • thank you for your posting i felt you had a lot of fun in japan i have been in NYC 17 years ago i had same fun there i wish i went to NYC again i am japanese from TOYOTA city

  • Hey, thanks! I have never been to New York City. I like Tokyo, but NYC is a little too scary for me. I lived in Fukushima-ken, but never made it as far south as Toyota-shi. Is it nice?

  • hey guys i really enjoy your video and i hope you can help me, since you are over there, is there any way to get to Koyasan from Nara?? i hope you assist me since im planning my 5 days tour , great way for recording your experiences!!!

  • It's quite a haul to get to Koyasan from Nara, and you will definitely need to make a few transfers. This route allows the least amount of transfers: Take the JR Yamatoji line from Nara to Shinimamiya Stn.. Transfer to the Nankai Koya line Express to Hashimoto (Wakayama) Stn.. Transfer to the Nankai Koya line (not express) to Gokurakubashi Stn. to catch the cable car to Koyasan. Check out this great website for train schedules throughout Japan - hyperdia dot com

  • Where is that place you stayed at 04:34 ?

  • Shojoshin-in. It's a Shingon temple in Koyasan. Really nice rooms and the vegetarian meals were great.
