This is part 1 of my series on recordings that John made at his first home, Kenwood. This was the home he bought in 1964 on the advice of his accountant. This was also the home that he shared with Julian and Cynthia until John ceded ownership of it in his divorce with Cynthia. The quality kind of sucks, but remember that these songs were recorded between 1966 and 1968. Recording dates are in parenthesis.

The General Erection (June 18th, 1965)
He Said, He Said (April/May 1966)
He Said, He Said (April/May 1966)
She Said, She Said (April/May 1966)
Good Morning (January 1967)
Across the Universe (1967)
She's Walking Past My Door, You Know My Name (March 1968)

  • Are you sure that the demo of You Know My Name is from March 1968? The recording of the song started on May 17, 1967...

  • @ywba

I am only going by what it says on the tape source I was given.

  • At one time oh so long ago I had to go through trouble, time and money, to get hold of any old Beatle bootleg on vinyl or cassette. Now effortlessly and without expense I just look it up on a whim.

  • People who charge for bootlegs are douchebags. That's why I put these here. I acquired these all for free. I have bought nothing on my channel that wasn't freely available in bootleg circles. The items I have paid for I make note of in the comments. But I would never charge anyone for these. I figured, if I get them for free why should I make someone else pay for something they, too, should be able to hear for free?

Again, people who charge for bootlegs or with stiff trade rules = douche.

  • The comment below me reminded me to say this. I know that the song is She Said She Said, but on the tape it is labeled as He Said He Said.

  • Imagine Shakespeare sitting at his desk working on a play, crossing out a word, writing a different one over it. That's pretty much the equivalent of what you are hearing here. Genius at work, creating something that will be treasured forever.

  • Wow... it's amazing to be able to hear "She Said She Said" in the making and all the others. I didn't know these existed!

  • Is this a straight across transfer of the original tape or have edits been made?

  • I love the Mellotron. Thanks for putting this up.

  • @NeilFraudstrong can i download this and use it like on a disc from atube catcher so i can listen to it in the car??????????

  • The first 2 She Said demos are from March 1966. I've got the 'Artifacts' bootlegs, all 1gb of them, lots of information on the inserts that come with it.

  • I'm a huge Beatles fan, and have heard many of their unreleased stuff, but I've never heard these recordings before. This is awesome!

  • John initually sung "he said" cos' he got the line from Peter Fonda who was stoned at the time and enerved John by keeping repeating " I know what it's like to be dead".A lot of thanx for posting this!!!

  • this is the reason we love this guy, the image he portrayed and the style he created.

  • George Harrison came up with that off beat thing in She Said "When I was a booooy - everything was riii-iight" Great thing about working in a band when your stuck someone else can look at it from a different point of view

  • @spirtw72 great point!
