It roots back to daniel faraday's mother and her philosophy of destiny...She told desmond that charlie was going to die, and then the happenings started. What if she didn't tell him, or faraday about destiny? Daniel faraday would not have stressed to be a physicist, but instead would have been an musician as he wanted, and desmond would not have believed in his flashes of the future, thus charlie would not have believed his destiny, if he wasn't told he was going to die no matter what.
