10 PLASTIC BOTTLE BOATS

In 2003 I wanted to bring attention to plastic waste in the sea, so I built the Bottle Rocket and floated 2000 miles down the Mississippi River. I've built 10 boats as of 2009, and surely more will follow. I'm a scientist and educator with the Algalita Marine Research Foundation, studying the impact of plastic waste in the ocean. It's accumulating quickly, it's in our food, and synthetic compounds are in our bodies. These plastic bottles have all been educational tools to bring attention to what we've done, and continue to do, to our common ocean.

Tips to make your bottle boat go faster.... You could create a skid below the bottles to reduce friction between the water surface and the hull. you can put foam between the bottles to increase buoyancy and decrease water flow between them, or you could stuff the bottles into rigid containers, like 5 gal. buckets. You've just got to reduce the friction with the water. That's what kept the JUNK RAFT only going 1.5 knots for 88 days across the Pacific. Best of luck!

so the point of this is to put more plastic in the ocean cause most of those bottles would have gone to a land fill i understand the concept of the reduce reuse recycle but come on your not removing the plastic and besides did you catch that fish alive?
