Hi, thanks for somewhat disconnected response to my observation about closer is better when closer is practicable. Ever made a bad shot, which if closer would have been a cleaner shot? Just because it is feasible to hit a living thing at 1200 yds, would it have been wrong to have taken it closer? Kind regards, Leigh Enfield.

@leighenfield303 Look you live in the UK which you are lucky to own a paint ball gun let alone a real firearm so don't go telling us how to hunt in the U.S .
US Americans have modern firearms that make it easy to take big game out to the 1000 yard mark without any problems .
I own a custom rifle chambered in 8mm x378 Weatherby topped with a Leopold 6.5x20mm scope with target knobs calibrated to 1200 yards
To shot an Elk like that is a simple shot without risk .

Getting close makes a lot of sense, however if you're in the last hour at the end of the season; and you haven't filled your tag; if you've got the ability to take an animal at that range ethically, why not take the shot?
