All of that fake coral could probably cover the cost of LR..Just my opinion.

I use Lifeguard silicone grease on o-rings from time to time and it seems to keep o-rings nice and pliable and sealing up fantastic. Of course over time all o-rings will shrink or harden or crack but the silicone grease seems to help out a lot.

hey 5, are you refering to the pleated cartridges? if so, of course you can rinse them. I have two for this tank and they are cleaned and rotated every two weeks.

Just thinking here. You said the pump is feeding the canister filter, creating pressure. Thought about having the pump to feed back to the tank instead, creating some "suction" inside the cannister? It wouldn't really affect this situation much, there is simply to much water on top, so there will still be a leak rather then the pump sucking air in to the filter, but it "should" help it seal, minimizing the risk of it starting to leak "over night".
Thank you for sharing your experience.

hey S, you are thinking in the right direction, but these pumps are intended to be used as a circulation pump and you really dont want to starve the intake. I did start using a small amount of silicone which other than having slippery fingers the rest of the day it has almost eliminated the seal problem.

Hey Jim , I am currently not using activated carbon in my 90 gallon reef tank. My book says that it would be beneficial to use, but does carbon deplete trace elements?? I am just worried that it may cause problems with my water parameters.

hey R, i would not be too worried about the carbon removing trace elements, what I would be aware of is the ability of carbon to clarify the water so quickly that it changes the light reaching the corals and causes them to burn or bleach.
