Geraint has been featuring the Brian Wilson/Van Dyke Parks song in his act for some time. Saxophonist Renaud Pion is a friend of Van Dyke's so it seem only natural that he should play on the song even if he'd never heard it before. George Wolfheart who knows all the songs pumps along on the bass. Too bad the feller in the yellow cap hadn't got his camera in record mode! He'd have had some nice shots to add to this clip from the Rochefort en Accords festival 2007.

The Balham Alligators certainly did exist, every Thursday night at the Hare & Hounds Upper St Islington. Gary the guitarist looked like Jack Nicolson & Keiran the drummer always had a bottle of JD in a paper bag. He drummed so hard the snare used to disappear across the stage. Drank himself to death aged about 42. Those were the days. Balham Alligators were legends

What a talent. It's fun to hear him booglarize tunes that you'd least suspect had the required mojo. Brave Combo used to polka-cize Who songs & such, but never approached this level of musicianship. Good stuff.

to anyone who is interested,i used to go to the half moon in putney whenever the Balham Alligators were on and when the band had a break, Geraint would stay on stage and do a duet with the fiddle players dog (jim, white alsatian)jim would sit on a stool and howl while Geraint played "old shep"....priceless

Agree totally, it is sinful that this man is not more well known and why hasn't he been on Jools Holland's Hootenany every year like some of the less talented musicians he has on regularly? This guy is where it's at, sings, plays with heart and spirit and nails it each time.

Guh-roo-vee -- what a great take on this song.

Technically, that's a jazz style, not blues.
