  • Dawkins explains all of this quite well in "River out of Eden." So for any who are interested, I'd recommend reading (or listening to on audio) that book. It is excellent. In fact, most of Dawkins's books are excellent. Read them all and be enlightened!

  • @Zeuts85 Yes indeed.

  • I agree, where do we mark the beginning? I like haplogroups and haplotypes to describe humans.

  • You can describe humans at many levels, and you always get at least slightly different answers. I find that fascinating and actually quite exhilarating.

  • Yup. It's true. I've seen it explained with many different analogies. Each illuminates the subject from a different angle, bringing some parts of it into sharp focus whilst throwing others into deeper shadow. But as you keep moving the light (different analogies) slowly you'll start getting a better feeling for the "true" shape of the beast even if you never get to see it all at once :-)

  • sorry should be soon not so

  • However as so as you think you have figured things out Nature will through you a curve ..So you will find that to say that just because you have not seen it yet ...It will not happen I think would be a mistake .. example.Goldschmidt's theory "hopeful monsters"

  • Yes again agreed ring species ,asexual producing entities , are a hard glove to fit on the hand of this logic but think you stated that better then most I just thing this science should stay away from absolutes and absolutes ..You will find more often then not that evolution is more a roller coaster ride. With each species moving at different paces at different times influenced by its primarily by it's environment and ability to adapt

  • Alas. I guess for sexually reproducing species it's not a bad guideline to use, as long as you don't fall into the trap of thinking it's 100% accurate - a good example are ring species that just refuse to allow themselves be pinned down like that :-)

  • I guess because of your emphatic suggestion that species is not determined by interbreeding though understood not perfect but commonly used was wrong...you had ..I hoped a better definition
