"Cook", as he is known to the youth of Albany, has been involved with inner-city youth for over 18 years. He has worked as school security for the Albany City School District and also was a director for various recreational youth centers.

He was hired by the City of Albany's Department of Youth and Family Services in 1999 and implemented the Gang Prevention Program, which was recognized by the National Gang Crime Research Center in Chicago, Ill. as an exemplary program in 2001. He is now the Capital Region Gang Prevention Specialist, overseeing prevention and intervention programs in Albany County, Rennselaer County and Schenectady County. Ron spends his days conducting awareness seminars along with speaking to kids at various schools and youth facilities and his nights reaching out to kids already involved in "at risk" activity.

Cook has been a catalyst in the implementation of a number of successful youth programs including an after-school stipend program with the Albany Housing Authority and a "Teen Night" with the Albany YMCA. He is a lecturer for the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services, the Middle Atlantic Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network (MAGLOCLEN), and the East Coast Gang Investigators Association (ECGIA) and has provided numerous seminars educating communities and law enforcement agencies both nationally and internationally on identifying and preventing gangs and their effects on the community. He was presented with the 2001 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award, given by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and received the New York State Governor's Dr. King Leadership Award for 2004.

His program has involved over 600 youth since 1999 and Ron hopes that with continued community involvement and the ongoing relationship he has with the Capital Region's "youth at risk", the program will provide the answers the kids need to overcome the negative pressures they encounter.
