This was taken during a holiday weekend... umimatsuri I think... So it was pretty crowded.

Its a PET bottle. I don't know how new PET bottles are in Japan but most all pops in vending machines have them. It like an aluminum can with a screw off top.

We did our study abroad in Hikone, which is about 45 minutes (by train) north from Kyoto.
