I think this ending suits the movie. In the stage show, Seymour sorta kills Orin and Mushnik, but in the movie, they just kind of conveniently die. He's more of a murderer in the play. Also the movie made Seymour and Audrey wayyyy too likeable and made the audience care too much about them (with things like Audrey's daydream, which we can't see in the play). And in the stage show, they're sorta humorously reincarnated as part of Audrey II. In the movie ending, they were dead, and that was it.
