Great up-tempo Northern Soul stomper, "I'm Gonna Get To You" by The Soulville All-Stars from Harrisburg, PA. This is the flip-side of their hit single, the sweet soul ballad, "Won't You Please Be My Girl", which I believe is posted here on YT somewhere. If not...I will post. Written by Billy Richter, who later went on to be the organ player for The Magnificent Men, and Rich Claar, who later formed Rich Claar's Pentagon, one of the most successful & enduring show bands in the Northeastern U.S. Crisp, clean lead vocals and tight instrumentation, featuring a Hammond B3 that really rings throughout. How any of the "major labels" missed these guys is still a mystery to me. ENJOY!!!

  • A big record on the UK Northern Soul scene in 1973 (Pendulum, Manchester etc.)

Donald Lee Richardson "You Got Me In The Palm Of My Hand" on Soulville SV-1022-B was was also being played at that time (particularly popular at the Catacombs, Wolverhampton!). Both great uplifting sides, very much in the best traditions of 'Northern Soul'.

  • @drwhatson Glad you found this. The Soulville & Jaywalking label was a major force in our little neck of the woods back in the 60s. Thnx 4 tuning in.

  • @marrbill Possibly a little too fast for older bones nowadays? - after all, we were all a lot younger and fitter back then, presumably! - Also, some of the younger punters may not have heard it before... Still a terrific side though, IMO.

  • @drwhatson Got this a good few years ago, played it in Edinburgh and it didn't get a great response so haven't played since. ( bunch of old handbaggers), anyway i still play it for my own fix of northern. Magic tune, bugger them all.

  • I'm Rick....and I played guitar on this track.

Some people have asked me why my guitar sounded so muddy.

Simple answer.....if you're not needed....get out of the way.

I also played on the tracks of Hulie Diggs and Bobby Fulton.

I was the extra guitar player on Bobby's tunes with his band.

Hulie Diggs....."The Name of The Game" "Understanding Is The Best Thing"

I think the "Soulville All-Stars" were the backing band for Hulie's tunes.

  • Great song xxx

  • @DaddyClb To us in the UK they seemed VERY obscure and exotic, (which was part of the appeal of course!)! These two sides were played extensively in Northern Soul clubs, but imported copies in 1973 satisfied initial demand. I remember the label design being just so appealing and right-on ('Soulville' - cool!) that there was some doubt as to whether they were actually bootlegs! :-)

The Jaywalking label is fondly regarded too of course.

  • Great Northern Dancer,Nice Post...

  • It's Great to hear the Sounds of Soulville, My Father, Hulie M. Diggs had a great time putting this company together. It is amazing all of the talent that was in central Pa at that time in the early and mid sixties. Thanks Daddy Clb for posting history. God Bless you.
