Away Away My Hearts On Fire

Gilbert and Sullivan's raucous operatic tale is captured in all its fun and glory in this production, recorded live at Central Park's Delacorte Theater. Kevin Kline sparkles as the swashbuckling and libidinous Pirate King while Linda Ronstadt makes her theatrical debut as the lovely and virginal Mabel. When Mabel and Frederic, a young pirate bound to serve the Pirate King, fall in love, complications arise and high spirited antics ensue. The incomparable cast offers the best in this boisterous romp.

Despite some of the technical shortcomings of the DVD I found it more rewarding than the 1983 movie. I would thoroughly recommend adding a copy of this DVD to your library.

I love the little drama playing out while Frederick is lamenting, the Pirate King and Ruth are trying desperately to get the sword out of his foot. I don't know why, but the juxtaposition makes me laugh really hard.

It's a shame the audio on this trio is sub-par. This is my favoriet number in the show.

I really like Kevin Kline. He plays his part marvelously. He's on his element.

I saw this on Broadway with Treat Williams. It is great, and I adore Kevin Kline, but if you don't know the show, you miss a LOT of the lyrics because it's so wordy!
