Hull, England, UK, severely disadvantaged since the decline of its fishing industry, is now on track to becoming "the world's first restorative city." The goal is for all 23,000 professionals who work with children and youth to employ restorative practices.

"Restorative practices gives us a really explicit way of working with people. It's done incredible things for building a community in Collingwood, and it's captured the imagination, not just of my pupils, my staff and parents but of many other people in this city, who've started to use it in their organizations."
— Estelle MacDonald, Headteacher, Collingwood Primary School; Head, Hull Centre for Restorative Practices

"What if you could harness the potential of 23,000 people across a small, compact city like Hull, and train them to behave, to work, to talk restoratively as they go about their daily business of trying to improve things for the next generation? How powerful would that be?"
— Nigel Richardson, Corporate Director, Hull Children and Young People's Services

"It's about promoting joint understanding, breaking down barriers and helping people see somebody else's point of view."
— Iain Dixon, Inspector, Humberside Police

"The only people who have the whole story are the families. It's about listening to their stories and supporting them to make change. They're leading it, really."
— Jo Faulkner, Families Project Coordinator, Hull Centre for Restorative Practices

"It's about respect for one another and being clear about what we expect, and listening to the children about what they want as well, to be part of taking the school forward."
— Christopher Straker, Headteacher, Endeavour High School
