What a shame that animals always have to pay the price because humans are careless and ignorant. They should not leave their windows cracked or have food in the car or on themselves, and they should not get close to the bear or throw it food. The bears have to be killed after they discover they can get food other than the way they are meant to, and become a nuisance. The people are the ones that are the problem.

People are stupid around bears. At Cades Cove one day I saw about 8 people trying to make a circle around a bear to keep it from leaving. I told them to get back and give it an escape route or they was about to have a bad case of eat-um-ass-up-sydrome.

@clancg2003 thank you spanky for your powerful insight. You have just proved
your own comment to be true.

Maybe these black bears consider themselves a minority.
Offering them some government assistance, or even a dollar or
coupon for free chicken would be better than nothing. C'mon people
let's show we care!

Bears I can understand......People, on the other hand, I will NEVER figure out!

Misleading title!

@01richwood Clingmans' Dome is located in Tennessee. The highest point east of the Mississippi River is Mt. Mitchell (6684 ft.), which is in North Carolina.

Stupid people, I hope they got slapped with a huge fine. Bear's also connect coolers to food. So cover up everything from view. Make sure to ziplock all open food and keep it in a cooler. If possible duct tape the crack of the cooler (they are not air tight). Keep the coolers in the trunk of your car, out of sight. Please take care around wildlife because they pay the price for people being careless!

Hmm...The bear pays the price because these morons leave food in the car and the windows partially rolled down.....

@idiot4 The parking lot, visitor center, and observation deck are all inside North Carolina. The state's border runs just northeast of the paved trail that leads up to the observation deck.

@everman111 That is self justifying the authority you perceive to have over animals, and allowing the authorities over you to be justified 'as God gives all in positions of authority their power'. Think about your opinion for a second.
God didn't get his hands dirty making 'us'.

@57worldwide because God just said let there be animals but he actually got his hands dirty making us. If you believe in this or not I don't care
I have heared people say "Clingman's Dome in Tenn." most of my life. However looking at the yahoo map it seems Clingman's Dome is just a few feet over into the N.C. side. But I gues I will still say Tenn.

Your right, in a way. Clingmans dome is on the border of Tenn and NC. The parking lot i believe is in Tenn.

@idiot49 The observation tower was intentionally built in Tennessee, to add an additional 50 feet to the top of Tennessee's highest peak, for the specific purpose of claiming the "highest point" bragging rights away from North Carolina. The extra 54-feet height of the observation tower is JUST ENOUGH so that Tennessee can claim the "highest point east of the Mississippi". That's the whole point of it being there.
