i used silicon sealant (3 coats) on a piece of drafting vellum. each coat takes about 1 hour to dry. you can spread the silicon with a dense foam paint roller.

It's taken me 3 days to figure out why i can't reply to you (youtube doesnt like the "hash" symbol).
I suggest you join the IRC chatroom mentioned in my description. We are in the process of setting up a multitouch community with blogs, wiki, and a forum. We will be sharing information and software with each other.

Hi can you please tell us what your "compliant" surface is? Do you get smeary fingers or not? Is it something like: finger on silicon, silicon on grease, grease on acrylic. (?)

So do you think that the compliant surface is actually necessary? The bare acrylic seemed to do a very nice job at tracking the blobs...

@NateTheGreat555 it depends on the setup. If you are planning on having a projection screen infront of the acrylic then it is needed.

I;m trying to find out whats wrong with my screen, i have 88x850nm leds 15degree cone, 60mA. I have 88leds on a 30" screen (1led/inch) but my hardmodded PS3 eyetoy is not picking up th IR light when i put my fingers in the 3/8" thick plexiglass with flamepolished edges. it can see the LEDs very brighly but not the reflected light. what can not be working?

Do you need to modify the eyetoy's lens to remove the IR filter? If I point one of my LEDs at my phillips camera with a lens that has no IR coating it pretty much whites out the entire image. It can still see the LED with it's normal lens though, but its just a dot of white light and isn't strong enough to work with FTIR.

I did modify the eyetoy to remove the IR filter and placed floppy disk foil to filter out the visible light, But which LEDs should I buy and what is a reasonable amount of LEDS for a 30" screen(24"x18")?

go to the forums at nuigoup (dot) com, there will be people there who know more about the eyetoy camera as well as build reports detailing parts.
