Sloganeering and uproarious scenes led to the disruption of the Rajya Sabha after the Womens Reservation Bill was tabled by the Congress-led UPA government. Samajwadi Party members led the protest against the bill. Besides Samajwadi Party (SP), RJD and BSP are also opposed to the bill while most of the major political parties including Congress, BJP and the Left combine are in favor of the bill.
SP has issued a whip for its members. BSP, however, has refrained from issuing a whip.
JD-U which was split over the issue has also not issued a whip. The party is expected to decide during voting on the Bill.
