Very helpful! I wish I watched this years ago! haha

use Imap NOT pop... setup in Mail ...then:
IMPORTANT
Always set the mailboxes correctly, by for eg. selecting "Gmail/Drafts" and going to "Mailbox" menu then "Use This Mailbox For" then "Drafts". This will then move the Gmail drafts to be under the Drafts list in your Mail.app client.
Do likewise for Sent, Trash, and Junk.
Took me hours to find this out, as otherwise they are all bunched together at the bottom of the mailboxes!
Youtube search for "AskTheMacGuyDotCom" video, very good.

I could NOT for the life of me set up my email account for my mac, I dont know what I was doing wrong and I just stopped trying. After two years I decided to look up videos on youtube and came across yours..... Thanks to your tutorial I was finally able to set things up. Thank you for your walk through!! I am very grateful

I can not agree, IMAP is always superior. If alone because you can manage folders, or labels for that matter, in your mail client.

Why POP? What is it?

POP stands for "Post Office Protocol". Essentially, once you download a message to a computer, it will not be downloaded to another computer. (How many times can you receive the same letter from the post office?)
POP is preferable if you only have one computer. IMAP is preferred when you have multiple email receiving devices.

You want to set that to "smtp [dot] gmail [dot] com"
For the Username/Password, use your full Gmail address and Gmail password.

Actually, in Leopard mail, you just enter in the email address and password, and Mail will set it up automatically. I don't know how to do a Yahoo account in tiger, sorry.
