What are the Tar Sands ?
Largely located in Alberta, the Tar Sands deposits are distributed over an area of 140,000 km2 an area larger than England.
Tar Sands are basically oily soil. They are sticky deposits of bitumen mixed with sand and clay, which require enormous quantities of energy and water, and several stages of industrial processing, to extract and turn into useable crude oil.
Tar Sands development is turning once-pristine stretches of ancient forest into desolate, post-apocalyptic landscapes and producing toxic pollution that is harming the health and quality of life of the regions Indigenous First Nations communities.

tar oil sand extraction is not a crime. I am not saying that you dont need to protest. We need to keep pressure oil producers to make it more environmentally friendly. I see the tar sand has many positive effects on the ongoing war on middle east on the hidden agenda of energy security. These resources will be used one way or the other. Best way is to use it in more cleaner way. and to sequester the same amount of carbon by carbon sequestration projects and green technologies.

Part II
Yes, this operation is a crime against mother earth. Sadly, the provincial government let's big oil do as they please. For two years running, the government failed to collect $1,000,000,000.00 in royalties annually. That's $3000.00 per man, woman and child. In other words, I pay taxes so that big oil gets to extract the resources of the province practically for free. Robbing from the poor and giving to the rich!
