Well...just when you think it's going smoothly....and there might just be a light at the end of the Septic Pipe...
While cleaning the house to remove any chance of contaminants, mold, or bacteria related to the septic spill out and septic back up into my home...I decided carpeting harbored too many allergens and it needed to go. My daughter's room was the next to be re-done anyway...afterall, I had just remodeled the bathroom, which needs to be re-done!
Lifting her carpet was a nightmare....the flooring beside the bathroom is like a sponge...and caved in near the corner closest to the bathroom. That, coupled by what can only be described as the smell of death and decay literally brought me to tears.
My lawyer advised me to file a lawsuit, but I wanted to keep it friendly and just fix the home and return to it...HUMAN HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN ANY FINANCIAL GAIN!
We have all been affected by our lives being turned upside down...but my daughter's entire sense of stability was destroyed by this disaster. I thought it best to avoid drama and just get them back home.
We have been unable to have our family over for their normal visits, lost holidays, time from school, time from work, the list is immeasurable what is taken from you when your home and life are so disrupted.
When your also dealing with disabilities...it complicates it three fold.
What kills me is the lack of cooperation to make the situation right. The Department of Health did what they could do...they can't change the status of mobile park inhabitants being a forgotten subculture.
My home just needs to be restored to the condition it was prior to becoming a septic nightmare!

Is safe sanitary housing just too much for a single mother to ask for?!?!?!? To someone who can do the work, or knows how, it wouldn't be as devastating. I might even attempt it myself, with the help of the internet, if it weren't for health issues.
Community programs like the Keuka Housing Council, that assist people in need of repairs, or help...don't apply to Mobile Home owners...so I found out.
Single mothers don't seem to stand a chance. If my father were still with us, he would take care of everything. Without him, or family in the area, where does someone go?
The Land Owner would be able to fix it, but since I called the Health Department, our working relationship has deteriorated. I was supposed to just "deal with it until Spring."
When you have children you can't just deal with issues related to your health, and shouldn't be asked to.
