10.21.09 - Here's an evening view up at the star and overlook. See my older video for all info pertaining to the star and it's history. Unfortunately, the trees have grown up in front of the overlook, interfering with taking videos and pictures looking out on the Roanoke Valley and Downtown area! Next time I go up there, I will bring a 5ft step ladder to stand on so that I can shoot over the trees!

  • I use a Canon Powershot A2000IS...I just bought it because my other cam got stolen. Mine doesn't seem to be as clear...maybe I should play with the settings.

  • My camera doesn't allow any setting changes for videos. You just put it on the video icon on the dial and shoot. Try resetting your camera back to the factory settings. Can you still return it if you want to?

  • hey i also live in Roanoke. Nice video here. What kind of camera are you using. It has an awesome picture.

  • Thank you! It's a digital photo camera and this was taken on the movie setting. The camera is the Canon PowerShot S5is. There's a newer model of it out now with a wide angle lens. This camera takes awsome videos! and is one of the few cameras you can ZOOM during the video.

  • excellent video and great camera. im from roanoke. i moved away about 8 years ago, i moved back for about 7 months and just recently moved away again. growing up in roanoke was beautiful. the city itself was very kind to me. i miss it some nights. like tonight. but im glad i took a chance and explored the world on my own. i have a star tattoo on my left shoulder for the star. i love it. the roanoke star is my heart. thanks for the video.

  • I was on Jefferson Street in 1949 with my father when the star was turned on for the first time. Problem is, I can't remember it very well. Not even in the first grade then. But I do remember when, inside the city limits, when someone died in an auto accident, the star burned all red for a few days in an attempt to remind people to drive safe. Other nights it was all white. First time I remember it red, white and blue was in 1976. Then again after 9/11 and it is still that way nine years later.
