The Vietnamese guy that was executed had just been caught bombing a hotel killing women and children. He was a terrorist who deserved to die and the left wing nitwits make him out to be a helpless victim.
Nobody said anything about the Vietcong being a helpless victim. The point of that was that was one of the first times America was visually subjected to the absolute horrors of war and the ease and the mechanical way the military can end lives. Everything in the world isn't a left wing conspiracy.
The U,S. was in the throes of the cold war with the USSR. We went to Vietnam not to help S. Vietnam, in any case an inconsequential, little backwater in S.E., Asia but because we were afraid that Communism would spread, as if it were a virus. Such was the hysteria of the times. The war in Vietnam as well as the War in Iraq & the Gulf War were wars primarily by & for the benefit of the military industrial complex of which Eisenhower had warned us not to succumb to.
