March 4 2008, London at the Camden Roundhouse. Billy Bragg opens the show with the classic Diggers anthem 'World Turned Upside Down' then launches into 'A Pict Song' from the William Bloke album (actually this is a Rudyard Kipling poem set to music) then he riffs in typical Bragg style about Guitar Hero III

  • Thanks so much for posting this wonderful video -- a rabble-rousing start for any gig, with two of my favorite pieces. Love that opening riff to A Pict Song, to my ear a takeoff on a theme from The Mikado, which in its way also comments on power and privilege.

And if anyone knows the fellow singing along, I've been half in love with him since the first time I watched this. Such enthusiasm always makes me smile!

  • @llfrederick Thanks and it was probably me singing along as I was closest to the phone and enjoying the gig!

  • i was there and have been to loads of bb concerts even one at the Daggnahm labour party but this was one of my favs, the croud where brilliant and he played some songs he never plays live. one of the best nights out for ages!

  • Yeah i agree, I know a lot of people did not like the venue, but the collection of songs he did and the atmosphere was great where I was...!

  • Great song, works well within the spirit of the Andras Working

  • Good! That enjoyment shines through! Long dull story, but I once went months unable to eat, sleep, or even read much. Under stress, I always turn to music, as others may do drink, drugs or religion. I watched many music videos to stop odd brain-loops, and mostly Bragg's stuff. This one was/still is a top favorite; for fine material on a good night, but primarily for your obvious joy in that moment. Thanks again for sharing it. Think it helped, and no worries, I promise not to stalk you!

  • that was a great night - all of life's a riot as the encore in about five minutes flat.

  • @Manos99 I was pissed when he came through Toronto in november because the Phoenix isn't accessible and they (the Phoenix) wouldn't let me go in through a back/loading door.

  • @whiskyfromthefield Yeah, I think it is too. I assumed he just never played it live because I couldn't find it on here. Must just be a rarity when someone has a camera.

  • My fav the "pict song"...think it's the first in youtube...

    thanks from a galician pict..;)
