Hasniyye Yehia Tawiyyeh, 60, is living the nightmare of displacement. "It is hard to describe how much one suffers when one has to leave his house and belongings and just get out with barely the clothes on his back and nothing else. No money, no food, nothing of any kind."

Mrs Tawiyyeh, a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon, was displaced from Nahr el Bared during the 2007 fighting in the camp. She lost everything. Most importantly, her husband died shortly after the displacement and her son was killed by the army during a demonstration against the fighting.

When people are displaced within their countrys borders as a result of an armed conflict they are protected by international humanitarian law and benefit from protection and assistance programmes offered by the ICRC.
