Royal Ontario Museum - Crystal Opening

The Royal Ontario Museum, Michael Lee-Chin Chrystal Architectural Opening and Building Dedication, was held on June 2, 2007. This is a video composition of various clips from the evenings events.

All footage was shot by Arlin Schaffel from the standing-only spectator area with a digital camcorder.

The music was all created in Soundtrack, a program similar to Garageband. It's a looped track available through the program, I will look back to what the track is called when I get a chance.

It would be nice to hear snippets of the performers instead of overdubbed music.

BTW, Paul Gross did NOT break his pelvis - he sprained his ankle stepping into a hole on his ranch.

Yeah I really wish I could have gotten a good sound feed of the performers as well; but I was using a low quality cam corder and the sound did not turn out.

A beautiful old building that had class and dignity, has been violated and transformed into into a abhomination. I drive by this area every day and every one who was familiar with the ROM and did not know of this modification who has been with me dislikes it. This is yet another example of how we treat our historic sites in Toronto, we either tear them down or brutalise them like this.

the old NICE & authentic atrium is now for 'private events' not for the GENERAL PUBLIC.

I love how I'm supposed to gasp in appreciation of drywall & blank walls. the place looks like a fucking mall.

its disgusting. the building had character, now it looks like somebody dropped the model off the table.

the 'Staircase of Wonders' is fucking pathetic.

I mean, THE EXHIBIT HAVE BECOME CRAP. this is more about 'status' & money & power showing off than actual MUSEUM EXHIBITS or providing a social forum for cultural exchange. This is about PROVIDING A FORUM FOR RENTING OUT SPACE TO CORPORATE EVENTS.
