Very interesting footage from Die Deutsche Wochenschau in 1944. Most aspects of World War II from the German point of view are covered. Most scenes are of genuine combat in the Soviet Union, Italy, the Atlantic and the Western Front. Rare footage of Waffen SS, Panzer troops and Panzer Grenadiers, Luftwaffe, Kriegsmarine and the common German people are filmed in these extraordinary propaganda films.

Die Deutsche Wochenschau (The German Newsreel) was the sole series of German newsreels from 1940 until the end of World War II. It was usually narrated by Harry Giese (1903-1991).

Despite the overall aim of liberating France, Allied bombers caused immense collateral damage.  This is why some French hated Americans, even many years after the war.

Interesting perspective in 07:30 "US bomber squadron is under attack from an artillery battery" ...rather than seeing the bombers as attackers and artillery as attempted defenses against them.

As any military expert will attest, you can't win a war from a defensive position...same holds for winninf a war of propaganda

Except for Alsace..there is really no reason for conflict between France and Germany...Hitler was not worthy of the German people and the French were willing to accept Auchluss and the return of the Sudetenland...and probalby the return of Danzig if the little corporal had left Prague alone!!!

I heard French Soldiers Fought next to German Soldiers to keep out the Allied invasion I didn't understand at first now I do..

@meniosgomenios It's funny, but now when I watch the TV news (which I almost never waste time doing) I feel like it is really no different than this. Bankers and politicians and war -- what a combination! There is no doubt we are heading into the same thing again.

@LastCommodore At 1 City in french,16 Gernans who stayed to cover the retreat of the others,fired on advancing Americans.Americans called Bombers and 152 French Civilians died cause the american Tanks and Infantery was too cowardly to fight 16 german Infanterymen.Thats why the french hated them.They accepted the death of houndreds of french civilians to save some american lives.

Sadly, the translation is wrong on some parts.

I speak English and German quitw well.

For example, they don´t say "the bombers unter attack" arount 7:30, but that "bombers are beeing shot by"

That is a little difference, so they don´t stretch reality so much...

But: Still a good upload and a historic view into the past. Thank you!
