{read more about where I wore this/how I decided on this pairing!} I wore this outfit to class on Wednesday, at the hospital center, where my classes are. It's okay, this other guy was wearing a harness under his leather jacket, so we were both odd --by odd, I mean not wearing scrubs or a white coat. He and I totally need to be friends. What was I talking about? Oh, right, this outfit!

I built the outfit around this thrifted velvet maxi skirt I'd never worn before, and I realized that I needed to balance the high waist and long length with a less substantial top. I wound up mixing two tank tops from Urban Outfitters--the bottom is a black and white knit, the top is a summer weight lace tank worn backwards to give it more interesting lines and draw attention to the shoulders. I cinched the waist with a black leather belt from Botkier and added black Minimarket wedges for a modern twist on a Victorian corset and boots. Since I had this witchy Steampunk feel going, I added an antique pocket watch I strung onto a chain, twisted my hair up and back with braids and a black jet-bead headband from Forever 21, and finished off my outfit with a Kill City leather jacket. Since the jacket has an unusual, modern cut, it kept my outfit from being too stuffy or costumey with all of the Victorian undertones (the lace, the velvet, the pocket watch). I think it turned out very high fashion meets steampunk, which I really enjoyed!

You can purchase the Minimarket boots shown in this video, if you'd like, here: http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/urban/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=21141742&am...

You can also buy the Forever 21 Headband here: http://www.forever21.com/Product/Product.aspx?BR=f21&Category=acc_hairgoo...

Sorry I can't find the tops on UO's website. I bought them in the past few months, though, so they might be in the sale section now!
