OCTOPUS CARD

I created this movie in order to illustrate the effects the octopus card has on Hong Kong and its inhabitants. The Octopus Card is extremely flexible, it can be used for identification, credit, debit, security clearance, transportation, food, etc. The shopper who is the focus of the second part of the film is Sonia Mak, a fellow graduate of the University of Florida School of Architecture and a Hong Kong resident. The music contains excerpts from: "6IE.CR" by Autechre and "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead.

I heard that a Dutch invented this system a time ago but sold this idea to HK. He thought that this system won't work in the Netherlands. Now the Netherlands use this system =p. Still is the octopus card the best system ever!

The best thing ever. If Sydney something close to this, we're be over the moon! Our T-Card (transport smartcard) if delivered as promised in 2-3 years time from now. 10 years after it's been talked about, but no action.

One big reason why Octopus card is so success in Hong Kong is because the government and all transportation companies forced to introduce the system. When everyone needs to use public transportation every day, it can be easier to spread out the usage gradually.

Don't feel to bad brother! Our government/transportationcompa­ny's are introducing the 'OV-chipkaart' (english: PT-chipcard) to replace an 'older' (but much easier and safer system!) The whole system is full of shit, people don't want it, most of the transportation-personnel don't want it either.

Incorrect payments, complete ridiculouos transactions (because of messed-up system) like paying 4 euro's for a trip where you normally pay 1 euro. Hoping for the same measure as at your country: STOP
