This video is by the first recreational SCUBA diver permitted to explore the wreck the morning of January 9, 2011.

There is a fee to dive the ship and it is confirmed that I was the first paying diver on the wreck; all others in the video are employees or otherwise associated with the dive shop.

Kittiwake scuttled ship. (c) Craig Capehart; no commercial use without permission. GoPro Hero HD camera (R4 mode) in an Eye of Mine modified housing using only ambient light. Video shot at depth 58 - 25 feet, water temp 76F.

  • your exposure is too high

  • @Dylanedminson The video was shot with ambient light in a situation with very high contrast between the sunlight coming from the surface and the shadows cast by the ship; it was very dark inside. The GoPro camera has no user controls, it is either recording or not; it has poor dynamic range. There is no way to adjust exposure during shooting. In edit I try to add back red that is filtered out by the water and remove some of the overwhelming blue hue.

  • @down2biz nice video otherwise, that's why i went with the contour.

  • @Dylanedminson I didn't realize the Contour could go to recreational SCUBA dive depths of 130+ feet underwater (GoPro with Eye of Mine housing design tested to 200 feet). I thought it was merely "water resistant" for surfing or other surface uses. Must be something new!
