Previous videos looked at the iPhone 3GS features such as its speed, camera/video, and oil resistant screen. This video looks at the addition of a digital compass. While the compass is a nice feature, it's difficult to find practical usage.

  • Good video. But I do find it very useful with Geocaching and hiking.

  • I did acknowledge the compass on foot can be helpful, specifically when hiking. When doing geocaching though, and hiking too for that matter, wouldn't the iPhone's GPS be even more helpful? :)

  • Great vid. What type of wireless mic are you using?

  • Thanks -- most the time I use a Sennheiser G2 100 camera pack.

  • is that a bubble in your compass?

  • Вадим пиздабол)))

  • The video host said there is nothing you can do. There is one thing. Call Apple and/or Google and get them to fix it. GPS systems without built in compasses use the GPS to determine direction. Current position compared to previous position indicates direction. This method works very well, all of the time. If enough people chase Apple and Google maybe they will put it back in place and Google Maps will be worth having again.

(and those with nothing to say resort to curses and insults)

  • Interesting video. To all the negative responses, I'd like to point out a few things. GPS tells you where you are. The compass tells you which way you are facing. The iPhone Google Maps GPS uses the compass to rotate the map so the direction you are traveling is up. Yes I can buy another GPS and I can buy another phone and I can but another MP3 player. I don't want to. I want one device to do all of it and the iPhone can, except for this compass problem.

  • Too much talking man

  • compass interference on iPhone =infinity!

  • "No matter which compass you are using it can get interference by magnet " How about gyrocompasses?

  • where did you buy that REAL compass?

  • On mine the compass rarely gets interfered. It can work at any angle and only when a magnet comes within an inch or 2 of the phone will it need recalibration.

  • Lol in the car just use gps...
