So beautifully stated. I experienced this with my hubby and partner of 14 years. Paying the price of admission mixed with a bit of blind faith...from which I live a fine life. Peace and Fun, Linda ☼
If chewing with the mouth open is a deal breaker, don't date someone from Nepal, if slurping your noodles is, don't date someone from China, if farting is, don't date someone from India, if blowing your nose in a tissue is, don't date somebody from a Western country, etc etc etc... point being: what annoys us is often just culturally defined or brought in by the way we were raised...
This is amazing advice. You're so right about the list of deal breakers needing to be small. People are all quirky, and we all do annoying things. But if you let minor annoyances be deal breakers, you are sure to miss out on having a partner you will come to love dearly.
I've got to disagree on this one (the part about the actual question, anyway).
Open-mouth chewing is a reasonable deal-breaker. It's not as if closed-mouth chewing is a rare and mysterious trait requiring years of training to acquire.
Trust me, being single is not a bad thing, if the alternative is being continually confronted with behavior that disgusts you.
Well, I think he has a fair point. I'd say it's worth it to bring it to the other person's attention. If the other person won't make the adjustment, then I think it's fair enough to bring it up.
