A tap tone test of three tone wood for the guitar
1st AAA grade Sitka Spruce.
2nd AAA grade Claro Walnut
3rd AAA grade Indian Rosewood.

All tested woods are in the raw. Thickness is approximately 0.16" (4mm)
and 22" x 8.5" (560mm x 216mm)
Sounds made by a ball of a finger.
A microphone is Shure Beta57A

  • Can you add a piece of Koa recorded with the same setup ? I find this very interesting to hear the differences because they are so clearly recorded... Thank you for taking the time to share your experience.

  • Aloha, sorry I don't have the koa wood now. Also these size are for

    guitars, I don't have any plan to make guitar with koa now. But I am

    interested in the sound of the koa very much, too. Someday I will

    get and post it.

    The recorded sound, I made an effort by the reproduction of the

    fundamental tone very carefully. But Youtube made compress a sound,

    I hear it is slightly different but almost.

    and EIR is amazing. The Rosewood sounds

    much better!

    The spruce you were tapping did not sound

    really well. Are you sure you were tapping it

    correctly?
