McCain says he met with a high-level Al Qaeda operative in Iraq recently and asked him how he succeeded.

Uh, if he succeeded, why do we still have troops in Iraq?

Why are leaders of Al Qaeda free in Iraq meeting with US Senators while alleged Al Qaeda members are being held in Guantanamo without charge?

He was tortured for 5 years in a prison camp and opposes torture... And no, the American public doesn't have the right to know who he met with... His "once great legacy" is that he endangered and possibly caused the deaths of his fellow servicemen by giving the North Vietnamese operational secrets to get his knee fixed.

A hero would have kept his mouth shut and died if necessary rather than risk the lives of other servicemen.

if he met with this man, and the story is true (doubtful, but entirely possible), then the operative had probably turned himself over to the american military or intelligence service, which is why he could meet a senator. he was probably assisting american military strategists, not walking free and meeting senators.
