  • Yes - we can see the 'off-air' signal on the monitor wall - and the actual studios are above the control room on the second floor. I will be posting a new director vid soon.

  • Tpkidder - thats a good question, when we are talking about ENG, we are actually refering to the source of the microwave live shot. We use ENG1 and ENG2 as frame syncs for the live sources. In this situation, with only 1 live shot, the director is calling ENG, and it is technically ENG1 -

    thanks for watching!

  • what he said - thanks for watching and commenting guys! rg

  • yup it's different all over the place. We call them simply "Key" or "key shots" for camera blocking. They are requested as OTS's though. Super basically is old school, being short for 'superimposing' the graphic. In reality every graphic is superimposed these days:) Thanks for your comments guys! FYI - I am shooting another one this Thursday - Director Cam/TD helmet cam/wide shot studio/off air - we shall see how it goes -

  • what type of switcher do you guys have?

  • GV KayakHD 3.5 ME's - 4dve channels per ME - 16 downstream keyers (total)

Its a little different than what we were all used to - very powerful - but new user interface took a while to get used to!

  • @tvdirector38 wait a minute, 16 DSKs in addition to the 4 per full ME?

    Or 16 keyers total?

I'm glad switchers are moving to a standard of 4 keyers per ME... It used to be you needed 2 MEs to create a 3-box!

  • so no to both?

  • @ang7090 yeah, it's called program confidence

  • i'm assuming your looking at a wall of monitors. do any of the monitors show the newscast as the people at home see it? basically, can you see your direction come to fruition right before your eyes?

can you see the studio from where you are?

  • holy shit you have what we call a "reflecting pool" desk front :-)

loved the tension. I love the "shows that count."

  • very nice.

  • As noted, I love how each station has its own specialized lingo... Our VTR's are numbered (28, 29, 31, 32) instead of lettered. After 8 years, I have no idea why there's no VTR 30. "Key" shots are known as "Window" shots here. Centered shots are "Cucams." ENG shots are "REM 1" "REM 2" or "REM 3" depending on which tower the crew has tuned in. And "hit your deko" has replaced many calls for CGs since changing our system a while back...

  • Oh yeah, note I am not a director.... just a camera operator....and I don't know your set up so I am just commenting on what i don't know...lmao
