@JosephPapoon actually 40 years ago in many places muslims were more open to the west. you can see it in old movies from egypt, in lebanon, in israel, in iran, iraq, and in many other places. islam actually became more extreme in past decades as response to inner social problems in the arab world, which made ppl think a muslim revolution waill resolve. they were taken advantage by "religous" leaders, and now they are all stuck in strict religous lives noe all of them happy with.
