The vigilante attack in Mathira puts the government back on the spotlight particularly its willingness to end the Mungiki menace. A series of half-hearted measures and sometimes outright indecision has largely characterized the governments response to the activities of a sect it banned in 2002. As NTVs Richard Chacha reports, the governments wobbly stance could be further compounded by claims by the just released Mungiki leader Maina Njenga that he received money from senior officials.
