tramping the Upper Caples track, one of the toughest in South Island, New Zealand. This is a section in between Upper and Lower Caples Hut. We had to walk day to day from hut to hut.....a disaster ensued a day after this as massive rainfall and the Caples River bursting it's banks washed 1 of our party away and trapped us with several teaming rivers to cross and an eventual 13 hour hike with fully loaded packs to safety.
