@gummywormz I hope you're kidding about rappeling with this knot !! I've had it fail under extreme load, the free end will get pulled through and let go. The bowline is best for rappiling and towing.....

It's called the "highwayman's hitch". Likely used for a get-away after robbing the bank. Back in the day, you know. Little house on the prairie day.
