Waiting to greet the pope on Arab soil was King Abdullah II, the 43rd descendent of the prophet Mohammed, accompanied by his wife Rania.

After the Vatican City and Jordanian national anthems were played, the king made a plea for a solution to the people of Palestine, and highlighted the fundamental role that religion plays in the course of humanity and in human dignity.

Abdullah II
"Today, together, we must renew our commitment to mutual respect. Here and now, we must create a new and global dialogue of understanding and good will."

Benedict XVI
"My visit to Jordan gives me a welcome opportunity to speak of my deep respect for the Muslim community, and to pay tribute to the leadership shown by His Majesty the King in promoting a better understanding of the virtues proclaimed by Islam."

The pope thanked the kings for allowing the construction of churches in Jordan. He said it was a gesture of respect for other religions and called for the defense of religious freedoms throughout the world, not just in the Middle East.

Benedict also said he hopes his visit would promote good relations between Christians and Muslims.

  • @1234poppycat

Vatican helped French invaded and rule Vietnam in 80 years, after that Vietnam war also have “foot” of Vatican

  • So many do not know what it is to be a Christian / Catholic and have a distorted opinion as to the history of the Catholic Church yet seem to think their comments are worthwhile. Why not get educated first - Christianity was responsible for Crusades. Even conflicts attributed to them since - Northern Ireland - result of discrimination & population movements & control by the British government Nothing to the secular wars / murders- Stalin Hitler Pol Pot Mao Vietnam Korea etc. co

  • i love Jordan

  • Sadly, I think at least 75% of you are retarded.

  • @HatemailMagnet LOL YES CHRISTIANITY PEACE KEEPING WITH BLOWING UP CHILDREN AND SPREADING GENOCIDE AROUND THE WORLD. HOW MANY UNFORTUNATE CULTURES THROUGH HISTORY HAD THE BAD LUCK OF MEETING CHRISTIANS. THEIR LEGACY OF EVIL IS STIL GOING FOR A BETTER PART OF 2000 YEARS AND GOING STRONG IN IRAQ AND AFGHANISTAN....

    YES PEACE KEEPING.

  • @frankbateau1 Yea, christianity has always been a peacekeeper for humanity...

  • Yes brother. The Bible may not. Jesus didnt leave us with a book. Jesus left His Church, His Mystical Body with His Apostles successors to serve as Magisterium, in order that they may continue to guide us and teach us as to the ordinances of Heaven.

Matthew 16:19 I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."

  • God bless you. you have to be humble in order to see God. God will not show himself to you in a way you want. God is God, He will reveal himself to you the way He wants to. Open your heart to Him. You were Baptized and you still bear the mark of Christianity in your soul. Pray brother. Be Humble. God is closer to you than you are to yourself.

  • @1234poppycat Personally, I gave up christianity when I was 9 and even though I didn't have a full comprehension of that sickness, it was still the most relieving feeling of my life. Most other atheists say the same. Religion sets you free? In what way? Pray do tell.

  • @tjacobs9 Some club --billions of members and can trace origins back to 2000 years ago.
